Every word in a sentence is doing a job, and naming that job is the vocabulary the rest of grammar is built on. These worksheets move from finding a noun in a printed sentence to telling an adverb from an adjective in writing a student produces themselves.

Eleven parts of speech worksheets are published, covering ten of the ten topics in this skill and written for kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2, grade 4, grade 5, grade 6, grade 7 and grade 8. Between them they come to 155 questions and 74 ruled lines.
Parts of Speech spans kindergarten to grade 8 across its topic list, which is wider than most single skills — nouns, common and proper nouns and verbs sit at different ends of it. A topic's grade range is where a dedicated sheet is still worth printing, not where the idea is first mentioned.
How a parts of speech sheet works
Six question types appear across these sheets — 11 × identify, 6 × multiple choice, 6 × rewrite, 6 × write your own, 4 × fill in the blank and 3 × sort — and no single sheet uses all of them. Each moves from spotting the rule to applying it, so a student who has memorised the wording of the rule and nothing else runs out of road before the last part.
33 rule statements are printed across the set, in a box above the questions rather than assumed from a lesson last week. Altogether a student reads about 2232 words to work through every parts of speech sheet here; the longest single one is Mixed Parts of Speech Review Worksheet at 20 questions, against a target of 20 for its grade.
