Grade 3 students identify, complete, and correct sentences to practice capitalizing days, months, and holidays while keeping seasons lowercase.
This worksheet gives Grade 3 students focused practice with one of the most commonly tested capitalization rules: knowing which time-related words belong in uppercase. Days of the week, months of the year, and holiday names are always capitalized in English — but season names like winter, spring, summer, and fall are not. That distinction trips up many young writers who assume all time words work the same way. The three sections move from recognition to production: students first identify words that need capitals, then supply a correctly capitalized word to complete a sentence, and finally rewrite a whole sentence accurately. Remember
- Always capitalize the names of days of the week, such as Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
- Always capitalize the names of months of the year, such as January, August, and December.
- Capitalize holiday names like Thanksgiving, but do not capitalize seasons — write winter, spring, summer, and fall in lowercase.

Notes for the grown-up
- Students most often miss month names mid-sentence and may also incorrectly capitalize season names such as Fall or Winter.
- When a student capitalizes a season name, direct them to the rule box and ask them to read the season example aloud before correcting.
- A student is ready to move on when they self-correct season capitalization without prompting and spot holiday names independently.
